Mapping attention across multiple media tasks

چکیده

Paying attention to media requires continuously selecting and processing relevant information while filtering out numerous competing stimuli. Although the factors that drive toward or away from a single task are relatively well characterized, there is lack of understanding regarding how functions in presence multiple, concurrent tasks. In this manuscript, we report findings four experiments investigating question. Results indicate that, rather than being based on strict hierarchy between “primary” “secondary” tasks, attentional resources distributed across tasks (relative) rewardingness effortfulness each task. More rewarding elicited more attention, attention-capturing influence was magnified when cognitively effortful. These results provide support for recent theoretical advancements psychology research point promising future directions using updated models motivated predict allocation multiple

Detecting Attention Dominating Moments Across Media Types

In this paper we address the problem of identifying attention dominating moments in online media. We are interested in discovering moments when everyone seems to be talking about the same thing. We investigate one particular aspect of breaking news: the tendency of multiple sources to concentrate attention on a single topic, leading to a collapse in diversity of content for a period of time. In...

Common Neural Recruitment across Diverse Sustained Attention Tasks

At one level "sustained attention" is simply a description of a task demand. It is often used, however, in reference to a putatively unitary capacity to remain engaged in tasks that are lengthy, dull, repetitive and/or characterised by long intervals between relevant events. Deficits in sustained attention have been reported in a range of clinical conditions. Despite this, there is paucity of w...

Running Head: CONFLICT ADAPTATION WITHIN AND ACROSS TASKS In press (as of 2014), Psychological Research/Psychologische Forschung Generality and Specificity in Cognitive Control: Conflict Adaptation within and across Selective-Attention Tasks but not across Selective-Attention and Simon Tasks

To explain how cognitive control is modulated contextually, Botvinick, Braver, Barch, Carter, and Cohen (2001) proposed that detecting information-processing conflict attenuates the disruptive influence of information-processing conflicts encountered subsequently, by which time appropriate cognitive-control mechanisms already will have been engaged. This conflictadaptation hypothesis has motiva...

Run-time mapping of multiple communicating tasks on MPSoC platforms

Multi-task supported processing elements (PEs) are required in a Multiprocessor System-on-Chip platform for better scalability, power consumption etc. Efficient utilization of PEs needs intelligent mapping of tasks onto them. The job becomes more challenging when the workload of tasks is dynamic. These scenarios require tasks to be mapped at run-time. This paper presents a run-time mapping tech...

Deep Learning for Detecting Cyberbullying Across Multiple Social Media Platforms

Harassment by cyberbullies is a significant phenomenon on the social media. Existing works for cyberbullying detection have at least one of the following three bottlenecks. First, they target only one particular social media platform (SMP). Second, they address just one topic of cyberbullying. Third, they rely on carefully handcrafted features of the data. We show that deep learning based model...
